A Silicon/tungsten Electromagnetic Calorimeter with Integrated Electronics

چکیده

We discuss progress and issues relevant to the design of a highly segmented silicontungsten electromagnetic calorimeter. Our design features a complete readout chip which is integrated onto each detector wafer, thus reducing the effective channel count by a factor of about 1000. We apply this design to the SD detector of the American LC Physics Group, but some elements could be applicable elsewhere.

Calice Electromagnetic Calorimeter Readout Status

The CALICE Electromagnetic CALorimeter (ECAL) will be a silicon-tungsten sampling calorimeter [1] with 30 layers of silicon wafers, each containing an 18×18 array of diode pads, giving 9720 channels to be read out. The signal from each pad is amplified by a Very Front End (VFE) ASIC [2] which multiplexes the signals from 18 pads onto one output line. The silicon wafers and VFE chips are mounted...

CALICE Si/W electromagnetic calorimeter prototype, first testbeam results

A highly granular electromagnetic calorimeter prototype based on tungsten absorber and sampling units equipped with silicon pads as sensitive devices for signal collection is under construction. The full prototype will have in total 30 layers and be read out by about 10000 Si cells of 1 × 1 cm. A first module consisting of 14 layers and depth of 7.2 X0 at normal incidence, having in total 3024 ...

A MAPS-based Digital Electromagnetic Calorimeter for the ILC

A novel design for a silicon-tungsten electromagnetic calorimeter is described, based on Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS). A test sensor with a pixel size of 50×50μm has been fabricated in July 2007. The simulation of the physical sensor is done using a detailed three-dimensional charge spread algorithm. Physics studies of the sensor are done including a digitisation algorithm taking into...

An Electromagnetic Calorimeter for the Silicon Detector (SiD) Concept

To complement LHC capabilities, ILC detectors must reconstruct hadronic final states, including reasonable separability ofW jets from Z jets. The LDC and SiD full detector concept designs include silicon-tungsten (Si-W) electromagnetic calorimeters (ECal) for particle flow reconstruction of jets at the ILC. With high density and segmentation, they are critical to the physics goal jet energy res...
